    For four intense weeks, Salzburg once again became an international hub for young musical talent: Around 500 participants from all over the world took part in the Mozarteum International Summer Academy to study under the artistic direction of Hannfried Lucke in 50 master classes, Young Excellence classes, and numerous additional programs. In addition to the classes, public faculty concerts and matinees featuring the prize winners drew sold-out audiences.

    Spotlight on Female Authors & Composers: Festival Academy 2026 

    From August 15 to 16, 2026, the 2026 Festival Academy, under the title FRAUEN.FESTSPIEL.PRÄSENZ*, will focus on the visibility, history, and future of female playwrights and composers at the Salzburg Festival. The two-day symposium will place pressing questions about representation, power structures, and the formation of the canon at the center of the debate.

    Maria Kalesnikava opens the Salzburg Festival 

    The Belarusian flutist, conductor, cultural manager, and Honorary Professor at Mozarteum University, Maria Kalesnikava, delivered the opening speech at the Salzburg Festival last weekend. Her moving reflections on freedom, responsibility, and the unifying power of music deeply resonated with the audience, underscoring the vital role of culture in challenging times.

    Happy Birthday, Teacher Training WEST! 

    Mozarteum University has recently marked ten years as a member of the Western Partnership for Teacher Education. Together with the University of Innsbruck, the University College of Teacher Education Tyrol, the University College of Teacher Education Vorarlberg and KPH Edith Stein, it prepares young people in Tyrol, Vorarlberg and South Tyrol for a career in secondary school teaching.

    Die Festspiel Academy 2026 fragt nach Autorinnen und Komponistinnen bei den Salzburger Festspielen, nach Uraufführungen, Werken und Schwerpunkten. Die Uraufführung von Elfriede Jelineks Unter Tieren ist dabei Ausgangspunkt einer umfassenden Analyse im Spannungsfeld von Kanonbildung, Autor*innenschaft, Programmpolitik, Machtstrukturen und kulturpolitischen Rahmenbedingungen.

    Seit 2021 findet im Rahmen der renommierten Accademia Musicale Chigiana die Barocke Sommerakademie des Departments Alte Musik der Universität Mozarteum in der Stadt Siena in Italien statt. Die Zusammenarbeit mit der Chigiana-Stiftung von Siena ermöglicht den Unterricht in Alter Musik in einer besonderen, von Barock und Renaissance geprägten Atmosphäre.

    Queen of the Night: An Archive of Salzburg's Club Culture
    “Archive of Ecstasy” tells the story from the perspective of people involved in Salzburg’s club culture. But what exactly is this club culture? The theatrical performance depicts intoxicating ecstasy and escapism, but also addresses closing times, unpaid labor, and the constant shortage of venues. Final projekt Applied Theatre of Sophie Leon Pellegrin.
