Every year, the Department of Opera and Music Theatre prepares two opera classes with up to 15 highly talented students from renowned theatre makers for the high demands of an international opera career. Four staged productions with orchestra are performed for a wide audience each year.

    Fledermaus @ Bergson
    The opera class of the Mozarteum University Salzburg was invited to present what is probably the most famous of all operettas at the new, currently much-acclaimed Kunstkraftwerk Bergson in Munich. During the carnival season, three performances are on the programme at the impressive new event centre in the west of Munich. Under the musical direction of Kai Röhrig and directed by Volker Wahl, students will stage Johann Strauss's ‘Die Fledermaus’.

    26th January 2026 sees the premiere of Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia in the Max Schlereth Saal at the Mozarteum University. We spoke to the production team, Lena Matterne and Theresa Staindl, to learn more about their views on female identity, self-determination and social conscience.

    The magic of the creation process 

    Julia Maria Eckes, Anastasia Fedorenko and Anna-Maria Husca are about to complete their Master's degree in Opera & Music Theatre at the Mozarteum University. In this interview, they give us an insight into their everyday life as students and let us in on the rehearsal process for the opera ‘Medusa / Giuditta’.
