The Institute for contemporary music organises all events in the field of Contemporary Music that are relevant for academic studies, from the supervision of individual students to collaborations between several classes, departments and other internal and external institutions. Special emphasis is placed on the cooperation between the instrumental and composition classes.

About

The Institute for contemporary music offers students and teachers the opportunity to experience the entire spectrum of contemporary music:

  • Performers learn how to approach new music in both theory and practice, from the classical period of modernism to music of the present day.
  • The Ensemble for contemporary music at the Mozarteum works with students to develop the programmes of the Doppler Concert Series.
  • The composition classes develop their works in direct exchange with ensembles of students as well as with renowned experts.
  • World-class interpreters of contemporary music enrich the concert events at the Mozarteum with exclusive programmes.
  • Selected composers from Germany and abroad complement the educational programme with presentations and seminars.

A particular focus of the Institute for contemporary music is to initiate and promote activities that go beyond academic studies, presenting itself to the public with selected programmes and participating in international discourse with workshops, exchange programmes and other initiatives.
