Marco Sala is Senior Artist and Deputy Head of the Institute for Contemporary Music at Mozarteum University Salzburg. As a specialist in contemporary music and the low-register members of the clarinet family, he performs internationally as a bass clarinettist, basset horn player and contrabass clarinettist. He is also principal bass clarinettist of the Bläserphilharmonie Mozarteum, clarinettist of the NAMES ensemble and principal clarinettist of the Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi.
Marco Sala studied clarinet with Carlo Dell'Acqua at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Como, where he received the Franz Terraneo Prize for the best graduating student of the 2008/09 academic year. He subsequently completed his master's degree with Alois Brandhofer at Mozarteum University, graduating with distinction, and undertook postgraduate studies with Albert Osterhammer and Wenzel Fuchs.
His particular interest in contemporary music and the low-register instruments of the clarinet family has led to solo performances in Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Hungary and South Korea. He has also recorded for VDE-Gallo Records, Brilliant Classics and Deutsche Grammophon.
