The course "Music and Dance in Social Work and Inclusive Pedagogy" (MTSI) provides training and further education in artistic and pedagogical skills. The aim is to encourage and nurture the musical, dance and language skills of participants in a wide variety of fields of work where diversity plays a decisive role and to fulfill the social mission of inclusion.

Introduction to the course

The diverse, person-centered, methodical use of music and movement supports the goals of modern community work, namely to develop an integrative and inclusive, supportive and educative social balance between the many different living environments of a modern society.

Through the use of music, dance and language in various fields of integrative/inclusive education, the aim is to promote cognitive, emotional, sensorimotor and social abilities and skills. In addition, the pedagogical approaches used in arts teaching should harness unused potential and support people in their individual development and creativity.

General information

The university course is aimed at educators from all disciplines as well as musicians and dancers who are interested in the use of music and dance in community work and inclusive education.

It is particularly suitable for graduates of art universities, conservatories, teacher training colleges, social work academies, training colleges for rehabilitation professionals, educational institutions for elementary education, universities of applied sciences for social work and social pedagogy, universities and related institutions.

For admission, proof of a university degree in education or related to education, or proof of a relevant professional qualification must be provided (please submit a copy of the degree or diploma certificate when registering). Admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration must be completed using the registration form (if active) no later than one month before the start of the course.

The course lasts two semesters, comprises compulsory subjects amounting to 11 hours per week, which are blocked over 8 weekends from Friday 4 p.m. to Sunday 1 p.m. (total hours: 165). The size of the class is limited to 16 participants.

The course fees are a one-off charge of Euro 2,200. In addition, the Students' Union fee (ÖH Beitrag) must be paid regularly.

To obtain their course certificate, participants must complete all required courses and submit documentation of a project carried out in their own field of activity.

Mittendrin – Young Artists

Clear the stage for the next generation: With “Mittendrin – Young Artists,” a long-term coaching project was launched in the 2025/26 season with the goal of passing on a concert format that has been successful for nearly 20 years as part of the International Mozarteum Foundation’s cultural education program. The project was developed in close collaboration with the Department of Elementary Music and Dance Education (Orff Institute) and the Department of Music Education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, as well as Musikum Salzburg.

Ensemble scholarship: A (one-year) Start Up for Ensemble(s)

Establishing and developing the profile of an ensemble is one of the most demanding and, at the same time, most appealing challenges in artistic development. Many globally successful ensembles were formed during their studies, laying the foundation for an international chamber music career. However, existing study programmes alone can only provide limited incentives and framework conditions for this. The ensemble scholarship is the answer to this: convincing project proposals receive financial support for a period of one year to realise specific artistic projects.
