Mirjam Elisabeth Leitner

Mirjam Leitner is Senior Lecturer at the Orff Institute in the areas of Music and Dance in Inclusion and Diversity, Community Music and Instrument Making. Her work combines community arts, inclusive music and dance education, and interdisciplinary artistic practice in Austria and internationally.

Mirjam Leitner trained as a community artist, music and dance educator, theatre teacher, kindergarten teacher and yoga teacher. She initiates and leads community arts projects in Salzburg and specialises in the use of elementary string instruments in music education. In recognition of her artistic and social engagement, she received the Hubert von Goisern Culture Prize in 2019.

At the Mozarteum University Salzburg, Leitner is a member of the MTID (Music and Dance in Inclusion and Diversity) specialist group and the Inclusion and Diversity working group. She also teaches in the university programmes “Music and Dance in Social Work and Integrative Education” and “Advanced Studies in Music & Dance Education – Orff-Schulwerk.” In addition to her work in Salzburg, she gives courses and workshops in Austria and abroad.
