Competence in sustainability is competence for the future. Artists and educators carry a great responsibility but also have great potential for not only reflecting on social change but also contributing to it. The start of academic year 2025/2026 brings with it the start of a new elective studies block in Art & Sustainability, for which students can obtain a supplementary certificate. It offers the chance to explore the complex relationship between sustainable developments in our university and society at large, and artistic and scholarly practice.

The annual festival of the Institute for New Music and the Studio for Electronic Music of the Mozarteum University promotes international cooperation between composers and students of contemporary music from different countries. LIMINA develops opportunities and networks for young musicians.

The International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum University starts anew and expands with ARCO - Art, Research and Creation Opus and the Summer Academy Baroque (in Siena). The program connects teachers, students and musicians from all over the world in Salzburg and establishes cultural connections across Europe.

Oscar Jockel is currently Kirill Petrenko's conducting assistant with the Berlin Philharmonic and a conducting fellow of the Karajan Academy for two years. He has been appointed the first Composer in Residence of the Brucknerhaus Linz for the 2020/21 season. Previous commissions range from works for solo instruments to sound installations and orchestral works, the latter for the Bruckner Orchestra Linz or the Camerata Salzburg, for example.

How does one actually become an actor? How does an acting class work? This is what those interested in acting can try out for themselves for a week during the summer holidays, when the Thomas Bernhard Institute opens the doors of the university wide and sets the stage for the summer camp.

The Department of Musicology deals, among other things, with the history of European music from the Middle Ages to the present and offers courses in European folk music, non-European music and church music, as well as cultural studies questions about music.
