Senior Lecturer in Oboe

Starting on December 7, the Department of Opera & Music Theater, together with the voice classes and students of Claudia Lehmann, will bring Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy tale play "Hansel and Gretel" to the stage of the Max Schlereth Hall at the Mozarteum University. Mozart had to deal with the problem of being an ordinary person and at the same time an extremely sensitive musician. Was it difficult to accept himself? Did he frighten himself when he realised his extraordinary talent? Was his humour helpful in accepting himself? In the search for answers to these questions, many themes can be discerned that can be symbolic and meaningful for any generation and at any time.

The Mozarteum International Guitar Festival, which took place 9th-11th November, proved an extraordinary three-day celebration of the guitar, drawing nearly 800 listeners to afternoon and evening concerts. The event drew participants from far and wide, with 30 students making the journey from across Europe, Asia and the USA, while ten luthiers - from Brazil and several European countries - presented their instruments.

The Mozarteum University Salzburg is extremely happy and relieved about the release of its honorary professor Maria Kalesnikava and 122 other political prisoners, including Nobel Peace Prize winner and founder of the human rights organisation Viasna, Ales Bjaljazki, from detention in Belarus. Thanks to careful mediation by the USA, Kalesnikava was released from prison on Saturday, 13 October 2025 after almost five years of incarceration in apalling and inhumane conditions.

VR MozART takes the audience on a journey through space and time, using virtual reality glasses to immerse us in the emotional world of experience that W. A. Mozart's music opens up in all of us.
