A Year of Vibrant Musical Activity – Spotlight on the June 16 Concert in Vienna: The 2024/2025 academic year has been exceptionally dynamic for the guitar department at Mozarteum University Salzburg. Guitar students have taken part in a wide range of artistic and educational activities, reflecting the department’s vitality and high artistic standards. Among the most notable events is the upcoming concert on June 16, 2025, at the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna, titled: “Vienna and Italy in Dialogue: The Guitar as a Bridge Between Two Traditions.”

In cooperation with the Austrian Paper Museum Steyrermühl, students intensively explored the material paper, examining material, form, technique, color, structure and haptics, and developed projects in different scales that were subsequently shown publicly in the museum.

Higher education in Salzburg takes steps toward a sustainable future: On Thursday, 13 November 2025, members of five Salzburg universities and colleges set off on foot from their respective institutions and made their way to the Frohnburg, symbolically taking steps toward sustainable development. Once assembled at their destination, the five delegations formed a heterogeneous group united in a common cause: rectorate members, students, teaching staff, researchers, administrative staff and sustainability officers—around 50 people in all. Members of the Mozarteum University’s sustainability task force walked side by side with lecturers and students from the Institute for Open Arts.

The Theodor Körner Fund supports young scientists and artists with the Theodor Körner Sponsorship Award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros. It is awarded for outstanding projects, provides direct support to the winners and is at their free disposal. Two Theodor Körner Prizes go to graduates of the Mozarteum: musician Alexander Bauer and writer Anna-Maria Stadler. Congratulations!

The research project investigates the combination of textile and sound. The aesthetic potential of the textile-sound combination is explored and new possibilities of artistic expression are explored. Textile is an interactive medium and metaphor in its form of presentation and interpretation. Textile is material that uses certain techniques without naming the material or technology itself, similar to architecture. The term sound encompasses the artistic fields of sound art, music, ambient noise, transacoustic fields and silence. Sound is based on a conceptual compositional process in terms of the organisation of sounds, but also has a physical aspect in that the perception of sound is strongly linked to bodily processes such as breath, movement and heart rate.

After four intensive weeks with 520 participants from 51 nations, 51 master classes and 16 additional courses with a focus on musicians' health as well as around 60 public events, the International Summer Academy 2023 came to an end last week with much positive feedback. Twelve young artists were also awarded prizes of 1,000 euros each, sponsored by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg.

On 23 June, the Opera Studies Department at the Mozarteum University Salzburg will celebrate the world premiere of Agamemnon (Musical Director: Gernot Sahler; Director: Alexander von Pfeil). The commissioned work was created by the young Slovenian composer Vid Ožbolt, who is currently studying composition with Sarah Nemtsov. You choose the material on the test field. And then the playing begins. How does your new body feel? What does it tempt you to do? You are not alone on this exploration, the others must also find themselves in their foreign bodies. A series of recordings accompany you on this journey in an attempt to create an environment that enables collective thinking and relationships, to rethink how we are together and what we learn from each other.

Im Zuge der Aufarbeitung konnte die über 20.000 Briefe umfassende Korrespondenz erfasst werden. Ferner wurden alle vorhandenen Autographen des Komponisten sowie seine gesamte wissenschaftliche Bibliothek katalogisiert. Darüber hinaus wurden Aufbauarbeiten an einer digitalen Mediendatenbank zur Salzburger Musik gestartet. Im Zuge dieser Arbeiten konnte die systematische Digitalisierung aller relevanten Bestände des Tonbandarchivs vollendet werden. Die aktuellen Aufgaben zielen einerseits auf den physischen Erhalt der Jahrzehnte alten Bestände ab und andererseits auf die Aufarbeitung von rund 40 Regalmetern an bislang nur grob indizierten diversen Restbeständen, die vorrangig Arbeitsmaterial Paumgartners, aber auch vereinzelt Briefe, Kompositionen, Autographe, Notendrucke, Tonträger und Bücher enthalten.
