The Theodor Körner Fund supports young academics and artists through the Theodor Körner Sponsorship Award, which is endowed with €5,000. This generous amount is awarded directly to the recipients—selected for their outstanding projects—and may be used at their own discretion.

Two Theodor Körner Prizes have been awarded to graduates of the Mozarteum: musician Alexander Bauer and writer Anna-Maria Stadler. Congratulations!

On 25 June 2025, the Theodor Körner Fund presented its sponsorship awards at the Vienna Chamber of Labour's Education Centre. Two graduates of the Mozarteum University prevailed in a two-stage evaluation process and were each awarded the prize, worth €5,000.

Alexander Bauer: in itself

‘in itself’ is conceived as a multi-part series of works for acoustic instruments and feedback systems. The basic idea here is to realise this series of works not only as a compositional project, but equally as an artistic research project. Feedback systems are highly complex, and the resulting sound depends on a multitude of factors, such as the properties of the loudspeakers, microphones, and room acoustics. At the same time, the behaviour of these systems is extremely appealing from an artistic point of view. The aim of my work is therefore to systematically explore the possibilities of these systems, develop strategies for controlling them and use them artistically.

Anna-Maria Stadler: Am Gelände

The her novel, "Am Gelände", the author explores how we form an image of a place, a system, ourselves and others. The narrator's father takes a job as a houseparent at a remote boarding school and the family moves with him. They move into an apartment ‘am Gelände’ (in the grounds), the word used to refer to the plateau between mountains, ravines and forests where the school and a few scattered houses are situated. Looking back on her childhood, many years later, the narrator tries to reconstruct this landscape, but the images keep slipping away from her. She pieces together images in an attempt to approach this place from her past and the events which occurred there, an exercise which questions the structure of her memory.

The Theodor Körner Fund was established in 1953 by the Chamber of Labour on the occasion of the 80th birthday of the Austrian president at the time, Theodor Körner. Since its inception, the Theodor Körner Fund has supported the realisation of excellent work in a wide variety of disciplines every year. The awards are presented at a ceremony at the Chamber of Labour's education centre in Vienna, traditionally by the president of the board of trustees and the Austrian president.
