On 9 November, musicians from the Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, together with the Chamber Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Krakow, gave a concert at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music (ECMKP) in Lusławice, Poland, which was enthusiastically received.

The aim of the cooperative project Salzburg – Krakow Youth Academy is to broaden the horizons of young musicians training in the two cities through collaborative work with different conductors.

The tour group set off for Poland via Vienna on 6th November. Intensive rehearsals laid the foundation for a successful concert: on 7 and 8 November, the musicians worked daily with the string instruments and timpani of the Krakow Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra. This was followed on Sunday by a dress rehearsal and the evening concert, which met with an enthusiastic reception.

Under the baton of Alexander Drčar, the orchestra performed Penderecki’s Chaconne, Mozart’s Horm Concert KV 466 in d Minor (soloist: Krzysztof Książek) and the “Posthorn” Serenade KV 320.

Participants:

  • Elias Zumbühl, Claudia Alejandra Sinclair Flores (Oboe)
  • Lucia Perez Rodriguez, Margherita Giordano (Bassoon)
  • Sabine Wechselberger, Mario Alejandro Gordon Sanjur (Horn)
  • Yana Azhekhouskaya, Evyatar Baruch (Flute)
  • Nikola Curovic, Johannes Doppler (Trumpet)

Our colleagues in Lusławice were extremely hospitable and a warm rapport soon developed between the two groups of students. On 10th November, after a morning tour of the city of Krakow, the Salzburg group returned to Salzburg.

Save the date:

The successful collaboration is set to continue next year: in November 2026, the Mozarteum will welcome wind players from the Krakow Academy of Music, who will perform together with the string players of the Academy Orchestra under the baton of Paweł Przytocki.
