The university's internal Research Competition Mozarteum (RCM) took place for the 6th time in 2024 and has established itself as a fixed part of the university's annual schedule.     The Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts, worth €10,000, is provided by Wiener Städtischer Versicherungsverein. The award is intended to support emerging talent among students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Art and Design Linz, the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the University of Art and Design Graz.

    Alumni & Emeriti Meeting with Exhibition and Monteverdi 
    Another piece of normality returned and the Mozarteum University hosted another alumni and emeriti gathering on June 30. We met amidst the exhibition "Achtung International - Salzburg and 100 Years of the International Society for New Music" in the foyer of the Mozarteum University for a drink. Matthew Werley gave a guided tour of the exhibition afterwards and the evening ended with a visit to Claudio Monteverdi's opera "L'incoronazione di Poppea".

    With the new building of the Mozarteum University at the Kurgarten (UMAK), the city of Salzburg, the cultural area around the Mirabell Gardens and the Paracelsus Baths get a new player and neighbor. The official laying of the foundation stone on February 27, 2023 at 11 a.m. initiated the implementation of a future-oriented project that invests in the university education and research location Salzburg, in the networking of science and art and in Salzburg's core competence in the field of culture.

    Giacomo Puccini: Suor Angelica & Gianni Schicchi 
    Two one-act operas by Giacomo Puccini, based on libretti by Giovacchino Forzano – one tragic, the other comic – hold up a mirror to society through the lens of art. Together, they offer a multifaceted exploration of the interplay between social structures and individual choices. In their production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, both premiered in New York in 1918, Florentine Klepper and Kai Röhrig’s opera class invited the audience to engage in a thought experiment: How does a society react when its values, norms, and boundaries are put to the test?
