    Xunyue Zhang wins International Mozart Competition: Violin category 
    Twenty violinists from 17 countries gathered at the International Mozart Competition in the violin category from February 6 to 12 at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. First prize went to Xunyue Zhang, second prize to Yuki Serino, and third prize to Maxim Tzekov.

    Salzburg Cultural Fund Prize awarded to Yvonne Wasserloos 
    Yvonne Wasserloos, university professor of musicology, has been awarded the International Grand Prize for Science & Research (worth €12,000) by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg for her outstanding achievements as a researcher, including her work on ‘Music and Power – Dimension and Context’ and her research on the social, political and cultural significance of music – especially in connection with democracy and the culture of remembrance. Congratulations!

    Ema Krečič wins The Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize 2023 
    Six finalists out of a total of 19 participants from the Mozarteum University competed yesterday with an overall artistic concept in the string and wind instrument categories for the coveted The Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize 2023, which is once again endowed with 20,000 euros this year. The prize honours an outstanding student personality who knows how to impress with their musical creativity, poetry and unique charisma. The outstanding winner is 25-year-old cellist Ema Krečič.

    Choir work at the highest level: Musical town twinning Salzburg-Dresden 
    The weekend around 1 May at the University was marked by an extraordinary musical bridge-building between Salzburg and Dresden: with a cappella singing and choral symphonies, "night" and "sea", word and sound, the Dresden University Choir and the choirs of the Mozarteum University combined to create a multi-layered, dazzling spectrum of sound.

    International Summer Academy selects 12 award winners 
    After four intensive weeks with 520 participants from 51 nations, 51 master classes and 16 additional courses with a focus on musicians' health as well as around 60 public events, the International Summer Academy 2023 came to an end last week with much positive feedback. Twelve young artists were also awarded prizes of 1,000 euros each, sponsored by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg.

    Processing of the scientific and musical estate of Bernhard Paumgartner (2011/12) 
    Im Zuge der Aufarbeitung konnte die über 20.000 Briefe umfassende Korrespondenz erfasst werden. Ferner wurden alle vorhandenen Autographen des Komponisten sowie seine gesamte wissenschaftliche Bibliothek katalogisiert. Darüber hinaus wurden Aufbauarbeiten an einer digitalen Mediendatenbank zur Salzburger Musik gestartet. Im Zuge dieser Arbeiten konnte die systematische Digitalisierung aller relevanten Bestände des Tonbandarchivs vollendet werden. Die aktuellen Aufgaben zielen einerseits auf den physischen Erhalt der Jahrzehnte alten Bestände ab und andererseits auf die Aufarbeitung von rund 40 Regalmetern an bislang nur grob indizierten diversen Restbeständen, die vorrangig Arbeitsmaterial Paumgartners, aber auch vereinzelt Briefe, Kompositionen, Autographe, Notendrucke, Tonträger und Bücher enthalten. Ferner soll der Aufbau der digitalen Mediendatenbank fortgesetzt werden. Werkvertragsnehmerinnen: Anja Arend und Sonja Majkowsky. Projektleitung: Dominik Šedivý.

    Inter-university doctoral programme "Cultures in Transition" 
    The inter-university institution Science and Art of the Paris-Lodron University and the Mozarteum University Salzburg, which has existed since 2002, is dedicated to the multifaceted relationship between science and the arts of all disciplines in research, teaching and communication. From the winter semester 2024/25, a four-year doctoral programme will be established on the topic of "Cultures in Transition".
