Even 80 years after the end of the war, they raise big questions about the value of life, the power of

Twenty violinists from 17 countries gathered at the International Mozart Competition in the violin category from February 6 to 12 at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. First prize went to Xunyue Zhang, second prize to Yuki Serino, and third prize to Maxim Tzekov.

This year’s Erika Frieser Chamber Music Days will take place at the Mozarteum University from 5 to 7 May, marking the fourth edition of the festival. The three-day chamber music festival celebrates the work of women composers and other non-canonical figures.

The actor Augustin Groz, who has Austrian-French roots, studied acting at the Mozarteum University and then completed a Master of Fine Arts at The New School in New York. In 2023, he received the Max Ophüls Prize for best young actor in Özgür Anil's feature film "Wer wir einmal sein wollten", which can be seen in Austrian cinemas in May and June.

Wolfgang Richter studied German and History at the University of Salzburg and Art Education at the Mozarteum University. As an educator, he taught as an assistant at the Mozarteum University and at a Salzburg grammar school.

And the winner is... The university's internal Research Competition Mozarteum (RCM) took place for the 6th time in 2024 and has established itself as a fixed part of the university's annual schedule. On December 3, the best submissions were honored at the Award Ceremony with the involvement of the international RCM jury.

"What qualities must a person possess in order to dominate both dramaturgically and vocally in an opera?" and "What must a man of mature age look like who is in close relationships with a crazy old lady, a young girl and a doctor at the same time?"

The performance of Vincenzo Bellini's opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi delivered a powerful reinterpretation of the masterpiece. Directed by Alexander von Pfeil, the production centred on the relentless feud between two rival clans and the profound despair of its victims. This staging transcended specific eras, placing the story in a universal, timeless setting that brought Bellini's dark vision of love and war to the stage with harrowing clarity.

FAiR stands for Female Artist in Residence and is a funding programme for young female artists on their way to becoming university professors. It was recently launched at the Mozarteum University and is committed to greater fairness and equal opportunities in the professional lives of women at music and art universities.
