This year's Bella Musica tour promises an extraordinary highlight: for the first time, the original violin by W. A. Mozart will be presented in the city of Lucca on 28 August 2024 as part of the Bella Musica tour. This unique opportunity is made possible by a new collaboration with the Mozarteum Foundation.

Another piece of normality returned and the Mozarteum University hosted another alumni and emeriti gathering on June 30. We met amidst the exhibition "Achtung International - Salzburg and 100 Years of the International Society for New Music" in the foyer of the Mozarteum University for a drink. Matthew Werley gave a guided tour of the exhibition afterwards and the evening ended with a visit to Claudio Monteverdi's opera "L'incoronazione di Poppea".

Two one-act operas by Giacomo Puccini, based on libretti by Giovacchino Forzano – one tragic, the other comic – hold up a mirror to society through the lens of art. Together, they offer a multifaceted exploration of the interplay between social structures and individual choices. In their production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, both premiered in New York in 1918, Florentine Klepper and Kai Röhrig’s opera class invited the audience to engage in a thought experiment: How does a society react when its values, norms, and boundaries are put to the test?

In autumn 2024, bass-baritone Lisandro Abadie, actress Hanna Binder, conductor Christiane Büttig, visual artist Annette Fauvel, guitarists Giuseppe Feola and Bozhana Pavlova, cultural and media scientist Paul Feigelfeld, composer Laure M. Hiendl, pianist Lei Meng, soprano Allison Oakes and violist German Tcakulov will take up their positions as university professors at the Mozarteum University. Six finalists competed for the coveted prizes in the vocal category at the 15th International Mozart Competition on February 16, 2023 in the Solitär of the Mozarteum University. The 1st prize goes to Santiago Valentín Sánchez Barbadora, the 2nd prize to Chelsea Marilyn Zurflüh, and the 3rd prize to Dániel Foki.

At the 17th International Beethoven Piano Competition, organised by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), pianist Martin Nöbauer won the 2nd prize worth a total of 12,000 euros (ex aequo with Jonas Stark) as well as the Klemens Kramert special prize worth 2,000 euros.
