The students of the master's program Applied Theater at the Thomas Bernhard Institute, together with Ulrike Hatzer and Trace Müller, deal with Salzburg's "shadow stories" and with the forced labor camp in Maxglan/Leopoldskroner Moos in a participatory documentary theater project. Whether, when and why are painful pasts and shadow stories remembered?

The 1st prize in the piano division (Bösendorfer Prize), the "Audiodata Audience Award" and the special prize for the best interpretation of a work by Wolfgang A. Mozart went to the Austrian Elisabeth Waglechner, who studies with Stefan Vladar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she was accepted into the highly gifted course with Alma Sauer at the age of 12 and studied with Christopher Hinterhuber.

With the approval of research funding totalling 2.5 million euros from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the foundation has been laid for the development of a state-of-the-art X-Reality Lab - the digital centrepiece of the new Mozarteum University site at Kurgarten.

At the beginning of 2025, Florentine Klepper and Kai Röhrig's opera class at the Mozarteum University will bring Christian Jost's ‘Dichterliebe’ to the stage. The two set designers Carla Schwering and Yvonne Schäfer talk about the ideas and realisation of their visions for the stage design.

The Institute for Gender Equality & Gender Studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg awards prizes for outstanding student theses and qualification projects that correspond to the following understanding of scientific/artistic engagement in the fields of gender & queer studies, advanced feminism, and/or diversity studies.

In 2020, the author Helena Adler's second novel Die Infantin trägt den Scheitel links was published by Jung und Jung. The book landed at number five on the ORF bestseller list in April 2020; she opened the O-Töne literature festival in 2020 with a reading from the book. In August 2020, the novel was longlisted for the German Book Prize. At the end of August 2022, her third book was published: Fretten, which was nominated for the Austrian Book Prize 2022.

The 13th International Mozart Competition of the University Mozarteum Salzburg came to an end with the final concert of the vocal section on February 15 in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation. The 1st prize of 15,000 euros, donated by the International Salzburg Association, went to the soprano Anna ElKhashem.

Music and Sound Beyond the Human: This conference aims to contribute to this ongoing development, and to put special emphasis on the ethical and political dimensions that come into play in regard of other-than-human creativity and aesthetics. Submissions from all musicological (sub-)disciplines are welcome, as well as from the music-related domains in neighboring scholarly and scientific disciplines and in interdisciplinary fields like human-animal studies, critical animal studies, critical plant studies, multispecies ethnography, and AI music studies.

From February 13 to 19, 25 pianists from 15 countries competed in the piano category of the International Mozart Competition at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Bogdan Dugalić won first prize, the audience prize, and the special prize of the International Society for Contemporary Music, while second prize went to Elisey Mysin and third prize to Anastasiia Kliuchereva.

The Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts in the amount of 10,000 euros, provided by Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein, is being offered by Ö1 for the 16th time this year. The prize serves to promote young talent among students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Linz University of Art and the Mozarteum University.

Univ.-Prof. of Performance & Theatre Studies

Twenty violinists from 17 countries gathered at the International Mozart Competition in the violin category from February 6 to 12 at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. First prize went to Xunyue Zhang, second prize to Yuki Serino, and third prize to Maxim Tzekov.

The Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Fine Arts in the amount of 10,000 euros, provided by Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein, is being offered by Ö1 for the 17th time this year. The prize serves to promote young talent among students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Art and Design Linz, the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the University of Art and Design Graz. A special prize on the theme of "Solidarity" is also awarded.

The Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts, worth €10,000, is provided by Wiener Städtischer Versicherungsverein. The award is intended to support emerging talent among students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Art and Design Linz, the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the University of Art and Design Graz.
