On 2nd June 2025, the University Council of the Mozarteum University voted on the shortlist presented by the Senate and elected Univ.-Prof. Dr. Constanze Wimmer as the new Rector of the Mozarteum University Salzburg for the term 1st April 2026 – 31st March 2030.

Forum for networking & stimulation of activities around W.A. Mozart: a Mozart place of experience and understanding, of tradition and questioning, of research and experimentation, perhaps also of provocation.

Since 2019, the Research Support of the University Mozarteum offers an annual award for artistic-scientific and scientific research projects. The target group is academically and artistically-scientifically active persons of the University Mozarteum (teachers, researchers, alumnae & alumni, students).

The Institute for Open Arts at the Mozarteum University recently moved into premises at Franz-Josef-Straße 18 that were once occupied by the Austrian National Bank. An interview with Prof. Claudia Lehmann, who has headed the institute since 2023.

Christopher Lindinger is an innovation researcher, computer scientist and cultural manager. He co-founded the Futurelab at Ars Electronica in Linz and was co-director of the Media Lab until he was appointed vice rector at JKU Linz in 2019. On October 1, he took up the first professorship for art and digitality at the Mozarteum University.

2025 offers countless opportunities to look back on the past 80 years. The Second World War ended in Europe on 8 May 1945 with “Liberation Day,” marked by Germany’s unconditional surrender and the final collapse of the Nazi regime. In the months leading up to this, Allied forces had liberated the concentration camps.

Composer Noh SeungJu, who was born in Seoul (South Korea) and is  currently resident in Salzburg, has been awarded the 2025 Music Grant by the State of Salzburg. Congratulations!

The Department of Music Education Innsbruck is the central training center for music teachers in Western Austria. The focus on music education, a very personal support and the home in the House of Music in the center of Innsbruck make the department an interface of scientific expertise and didactic know-how.

Alek Niemiro, a graduate of the Thomas Bernhard Institute's directing programme, has been awarded the new Austrian Art Alumni Award for his project ‘Last Hour of Resistance’. Starting this year, the award will be presented annually by the BMFWF and Austrian art universities to selected outstanding graduates, and comes with a twelve-month scholarship worth €24,000. Congratulations!

The interdisciplinary teacher training programmes in art & design and technology & design have not only been given new names, but also a new focus in terms of content.

The versatile and renowned violinist, project manager and lecturer Franziska Strohmayr grew up in Augsburg and came to Salzburg to study, where she still lives today after graduating from the Mozarteum University under Prof. Martin Mumelter and Prof. Wolfgang Gratzer and from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under Prof. Jacqueline Ross.
