Maximilian Bauer
Maximilian Bauer teaches clarinet, clarinet pedagogy and teaching practice at Mozarteum University (Innsbruck campus) and the Tyrolean State Conservatory. Alongside his teaching, he has enjoyed a distinguished career as a clarinettist and has made a longstanding contribution to music education and cultural life in Tyrol.
Bauer studied clarinet performance and pedagogy in Graz and at Mozarteum University Innsbruck, and later completed studies in vocal pedagogy at the Tyrolean State Conservatory. A multiple prizewinner at Jugend musiziert, he received the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research's Würdigungspreis in 1983. From 1985 to 2006, he was a member of the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck, while also performing as a soloist and chamber musician with ensembles including the Tiroler Kammerphilharmonie, the Innsbruck Chamber Music Association, the Innsbruck Serenade Ensemble and the Thai National Orchestra in Bangkok.
After teaching clarinet and general music at the Innsbruck Music School from 1985 to 1992, where he also founded and directed the school's Big Band, Bauer joined the Tyrolean State Conservatory in 1992. Since 2001, he has also taught at the Mozarteum, and following the cooperation established between the two institutions in 2006, he has served as the conservatory's liaison officer for the Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy programme. In 2006, he completed his habilitation in clarinet.
Beyond his university work, he has been active for more than three decades as choirmaster of the Birgitz community and chairman of the Association of Friends of Music and Culture Birgitz. He is also a qualified mediator.
