Domen Marinčič
Domen Marinčič performs as a chamber musician throughout Europe, in Canada, the USA, China, Korea, and Vietnam. As cellist, viol player, and harpsichordist, he has participated in around 40 CD productions for labels such as Accent, Aeolus, Arcana, BIS, Brilliant Classics, Harmonia Mundi France, Oehms Classics, and Sony/DHM.
Domen Marinčič was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and began his musical training on the cello. He studied viola da gamba in Nuremberg and with Philippe Pierlot in Trossingen. He also received a diploma in harpsichord with Carsten Lohff and completed postgraduate studies in continuo playing with Alberto Rinaldi.
In 2004, he co-founded the Slovenian early music ensemble musica cubicularis. Since 2007, he has been Artistic Director of the Radovljica Festival. He has organised modern premieres of numerous works that form part of the Slovenian musical heritage. In recent years, he has directed orchestral projects in Slovenia, Finland, and Croatia, performing oratorios by Scarlatti, Stradella and Pasquini, as well as the Requiem by Jean Gilles.
He has worked on various aspects of historical performance practice and has presented his research at international conferences in Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Great Britain, and the USA. He has given lectures and workshops at conservatories and music academies in Venice, Munich, Detmold, Bremen, Freiburg, Basel, Helsinki, Linz, Salzburg, and Vienna. From 2021 to 2025, he was Professor of Historical Performance Practice at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. In October 2025 he was appointed Professor of Stylistics and Historical Performance Practice at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
