Matthijs Lunenburg

Teacher of Recorder Wind, Brass & Percussion Department

Matthijs Lunenburg has worked at the Mozarteum since 2012, teaching cornett as an elective subject and assisting recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger. He has conducted several research projects on improvisational diminutions (ornamentation), and his interests now focus primarily on the music of the 16th and 17th centuries.

He studied recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and cornett with William Dongois in Paris and Geneva. As a recorder player, he has performed in Europe and the USA with ensembles including the Royal Wind Music (2003–2010) and the Portuguese recorder consort A Imagem de Melancholia. As a cornettist, he has appeared with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Lautten Compagney, Capella de la Torre, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, the Marini Consort, Capella Confluentes and Musica Antiqua Salzburg, among others.
