Open Call – Artistic Interventions
In 2024, the Platform on Politics of the Past was established at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. As a public platform, its purpose is to provide a forum for discussing questions and presenting research findings relating to the historical political positioning and decisions of the Mozarteum University. All university members are welcome to become involved and support its work.
Open Call
Rolling applications accepted under: geschichtspolitiken@moz.ac.at
The Platform on Politics of the Past initiates and supports artistic interventions that focus on the role of both the institution itself and those active within it in the context of fascist ideologies and the Nazi regime. It also welcomes projects that address the continued impact of past tendencies and events, as well as the damage caused by the political downplaying of this legacy. This includes, among other things, critically questioning the honouring of individuals who were entangled in Austrofascist and Nazi (cultural) politics—particularly in light of the removal of the Honorary Members board from the university foyer. It also extends to bequests held in the archives and the library, as well as to patterns of inclusion and exclusion in personnel matters (with regard to genocidal antisemitism and the near absence of denazification).
The call is particularly aimed at artistic projects conceived as an uncomfortable reminder of the past, which cause "disruption" and draw attention to problematic issues in a visual way. There are no limits to the artistic forms that can be created: they can be a temporary, one-time action or installation, or a sequence of happenings (a dialogical series).
The open call is addressed to all students and faculty members, and all departments and instituties, as well as administrative bodies, who are warmly invited to become involved in an active or supporting role.
In addition to details of the artistic concept and content, the application should include a timetable and financing plan as well as a list of technical and spatial requirements. Project plans can be submitted at any time as a pdf under geschichtspolitiken@moz.ac.at. The Platform on Politics of the Past will provide mentorship and practical support for the projects, and funding for selected projects as far as possible.
Current members of Platform on Politics of the Past include the musicologists Julia Hinterberger and Yvonne Wasserloos, the Art Historian Hildegard Fraueneder and the dramaturg Christoph Lepschy, and Susanne Prucher (Head of the Kunst-ARCHIV-Raum) and Sandra Steindl (Head of PR & Marketing). Administrative support is provided by Elisabeth Nutzenberger (member of staff in the Kunst-ARCHIV-Raum).
