Social Street Lab!

Who owns the streets? Which streets and places do we need in Salzburg? And how can we get Salzburg moving in a playful way?
On 18 and 19 September 2025, the Co-CreART team, together with architect Markus Blösl from Stiftung Freizeit (Berlin), invited people to the Social Street Lab! As part of the project, class 2b of the Maxglan 2 Music Middle School developed a game for urban spaces that invited passers-by to engage in playful activities, social interactions and a change of perspective. Equipped with a large dice, self-designed signs with suggestions for action and plenty of motivation, Salzburg's streets and squares became a playground for joint artistic intervention and diverse encounters.
Another highlight was a visit to the courtyard of Mirabell Palace, where the pupils had the opportunity to present their ideas for Salzburg to Deputy Mayor Kay-Michael Dankl.
The experiences of the ‘Social Street Lab!’ will be incorporated into a participatory installation for public spaces. This is being developed by Markus Blösl in collaboration with ‘Co-CreART’ and will go on tour in April 2026 together with the CreART-Lab, a mobile learning laboratory for young people.
Workshop with Markus Blösl, Vanessa Friedl and Sandra Kobel
The project took place as part of European Mobility Week and was supported by the ‘Initiative Kultur:Bildung’ (Culture:Education Initiative) of the OEAD, Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation.
The event is a collaboration between the project ‘Co-CreART – Co-Creating Change!’ (Mozarteum University Salzburg / Science & Art, Paris Lodron University Salzburg), Stiftung Freizeit and the Maxglan 2 Music Middle School.
