A defining eight-year period at the Mozarteum University Salzburg comes to an end on 31 March 2026 with the conclusion of the current rectorate’s term of office, under the leadership of Rector Elisabeth Gutjahr. In recognition of her service, she has been awarded the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria. Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Mario Kostal is to retire, while Vice Rector for Resources Anastasia Weinberger will continue to contribute to the Austrian higher education sector as Technical Committee Chair for Sailing at the International University Sports Federation. Hannfried Lucke has been re-appointed as Vice Rector for Art.

"The Mozarteum in distress", "Help us - a cry of distress from the Mozarteum" - headlines like these characterized Salzburg's press coverage in the spring of 1921. After four years of war, during which it had been possible to maintain the teaching activities of the young conservatory, the Mozarteum was on the brink of extinction.

The University Council of the Mozarteum University for the functional period 2023 to 2028 is now complete. Thomas Rietschel, M.A. and Sarah Wedl-Wilson, MA (Cantab) were elected by the Senate of the Mozarteum University. The Federal Ministry of Science and Research appointed Mag.a Silvia Grünberger and Univ.-Prof.in Mag.a Dr.in Rosa Reitsamer to the board. The four nominated members elected Em. o. Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Karlheinz Töchterle as the fifth member, who was also elected chairman of the collegial body in May. Rosa Reitsamer was elected as vice-chairman.
