The Department of Early Music brings together the diverse competencies and the lively character of early music and its performance practice in an interdisciplinary way. The goal is a qualification that takes into account both personal inclinations and professional perspectives.

What is the sound and rhythm of a city? How do people meet in this or another place? Where do they feel free? How does urban architecture inscribe itself into our bodies? How do we walk in the city? What does the climate of a city feel like? How does the memory of a city work? And what happens when we relate our experiences with these questions in places as different as Hong Kong and Salzburg?

A great success for the PLUS, the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, the SALK and the Mozarteum University: The Ministry of Education, Science and Research has now approved research funding of three million euros for, among other things, Salzburg Collaborative Computing (SCC), a new high-performance computer for the universities of the Salzburg region that will usher in the research world of tomorrow.

The project sets out to accomplish a data-driven study in musical interpretation, connecting information from human analyses of a number of performances by Karajan, with algorithmically derived data spanning several decades of recordings. Although the project is conceived as a case study on Karajan, we wish to demonstrate the promise of data-intensive, interdisciplinary approaches to musicological studies of expressive performance, and help in establishing this as a new open standard approach in empirical musicology.

At the national competition for German-speaking drama students in Frankfurt, the final year of the Thomas Bernhard Institute at the Mozarteum University won several prizes for its production of Elfriede Jelinek's "The Silent Girl". In addition to the Swiss Ensemble Prize and the Audience Prize/Students' Prize, we are delighted to have won two solo prizes for Payam Yazdani and Joyce Mayne Sanhá.

On July 16, this year's edition of the top-class French-Austrian Academy of Composition came to a successful close in Marseille with four concerts. For the first time, the prize winners of the International Mozart Competition were invited to Marseille and performed in the concerts.

The Knowledge Transfer Centre West has set itself the goal of sustainably intensifying and professionalising knowledge transfer through joint actions and measures, tapping into exploitation potential, deepening and broadening cooperation with the economy but also with society as a whole, pursuing transdisciplinary and innovative approaches and using possible synergies to achieve these goals. The Kommunikations.Hub draws on the results of the first call for proposals "Awareness and Accompanying Measures" of the first funding period of the STC. In addition to already established measures within the terms "networking", "knowledge and technology transfer", especially the work package "innovation space" offers new projects.
