Peter Schmidt received jazz and rock guitar lessons at the Munich Guitar Institute and was taught classical guitar at the Berufsfachschule für Musik in Dinkelsbühl. He studied image and sound engineering at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf and the FH Düsseldorf, graduating as Diplomingenieur in 1993. In 2013-2017 he completed PhD studies in musicology at the Universiät Mozarteum, the topic of his dissertation was "Tonmeister, Vermittler zwischen Kunst und Technik" (Sound engineer, mediator between art and technology). From 1994-2008 he worked at the Theater Dortmund as head of the sound department and was responsible for the sound engineering supervision and development of numerous theater, musical and opera productions. Since 2008 he has been head of the sound and video studio/MediaLab at the Universität Mozarteum, and since 2010 he has also been a lecturer.
