Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Polaschek was a guest at the Mozarteum University on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 and congratulated students on their various engagements at the Salzburg Festival. In a conversation lasting just under an hour, the students told how their engagements came about and why the Salzburg Festival can be an important stage for the future.

The Mozarteum University mourns the loss of an extraordinary educator, artist and colleague who was known for his discipline and openness, contributed much to the institution and remained connected to the university as a curious spirit even years after his retirement.

Recorder player Max Volbers and baroque violinist Mayumi Hirasaki were recently awarded an OPUS KLASSIK 2023. The ASEAN-European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) was founded in 1994 and is currently made up of over 80 universities in around 20 countries. The aim of the university network is to promote research and teaching activities between the member universities in Europe and Southeast Asia (in Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam).

Nikita Buldyrski, actor and graduate of the Thomas Bernhard Institute, is honoured with the prestigious Alfred Kerr Actor Award. The prize is awarded annually for an outstanding performance by a young actor in one of the ten productions at the Berlin Theatre Meeting. It is endowed with 5,000 euros in prize money and is awarded by the Alfred Kerr Foundation with the support of the Berliner Festspiele.

With the takeover of the University of Theater and Cinematography Budapest by a foundation close to the government, a movement is beginning in Hungary that has long since become a European issue - the preservation of the autonomy of the university and education.

Cristina Giurgea, alumna of the Master's programme in Applied Theatre at the Mozarteum University’s Thomas Bernhard Institute, has received a €12,000 grant – awarded annually by the State of Salzburg in the field of Performing Arts – to support her work at the intersection of research theatre and performance art in Salzburg. The Sustainability Challenge invites master's and advanced bachelor's students from all fields of study to apply for interdisciplinary courses on sustainability with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals, to gain practical experience and ECTS. They work with companies, ministries or NGOs on concrete sustainability projects from the field, while the theoretical input is provided by lecturers from the seven participating universities.

The Thomas Bernhard Institute is one of the most renowned Austrian training centers for aspiring actors, directors, film and theater makers. The examination of text is related to space, body and movement as the fundamental elements of play and acting.
