With the takeover of the University of Theater and Cinematography Budapest by a foundation close to the government, a movement is beginning in Hungary that has long since become a European issue - the preservation of the autonomy of the university and education.

The training at the Department of Voice is tailored to the needs of singers in the 21st century who can take on roles with demanding physical requirements and are also masters at working with colleagues, directors and conductors from around the world.

On 8 November 2025, at the closing dinner of the AEC Conference in the Carabinierisaal of the Residenz Salzburg – a gathering that brought together delegates from more than 120 music universities across Europe and beyond – the Mozarteum University awarded honorary doctorates to Dame Janet Ritterman and Professor Michael Worton. This marks only the second time in the university’s history that this distinction has been conferred: after Nikolaus Harnoncourt received the first honorary doctorate in 2008, it has now been bestowed on two individuals who have played a decisive role in shaping the Mozarteum’s research profile.

In autumn 2024, bass-baritone Lisandro Abadie, actress Hanna Binder, conductor Christiane Büttig, visual artist Annette Fauvel, guitarists Giuseppe Feola and Bozhana Pavlova, cultural and media scientist Paul Feigelfeld, composer Laure M. Hiendl, pianist Lei Meng, soprano Allison Oakes and violist German Tcakulov will take up their positions as university professors at the Mozarteum University. The Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize, endowed with 20,000 euros, honors the outstanding student personality in the competition who knows how to convince with musical creative power, poetry and unique charisma. In 2023 it will be awarded in the categories string and wind instruments.

Starting on December 7, the Department of Opera & Music Theater, together with the voice classes and students of Claudia Lehmann, will bring Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy tale play "Hansel and Gretel" to the stage of the Max Schlereth Hall at the Mozarteum University.
