Return to slider start With "With Dylan On The Road", the Mozarteum University, together with The International Society of Mozarteum University Salzburg, offers students of all disciplines the unique opportunity to go on a journey with a scholarship in their luggage to develop art projects inspired by Bob Dylan. An initiative of the Research Management Department Responsible for content and concept: Eugen Banauch About "With Dylan On The Road" invites students to rethink "university" and to engage in a discourse of artistic research, learning and doing with the polyartist Bob Dylan - outside their comfort zones. For the application, there were specifications regarding a limited duration of the trip, the form of the project submission and an invitation to submit an interdisciplinary idea. The rest: open. Following the successful first edition of "With Dylan On The Road" in 2022, the project inspired by the polyartist Bob Dylan will enter the next round in 2024. I was born very far away from where I'm supposed to be, and so I'm on my way home Bob Dylan (1941) is a musician, poet, filmmaker, producer and visual artist working in a variety of genres. His work has left its mark on all areas of global culture and has influenced and moulded artists in many different ways. Bob Dylan has received widespread attention for his work, which has absorbed, transcended and transformed existing forms, genres and conventions, and not just since winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016. We understand his work and biography as a "message in a bottle". This floats in the oceans of rock, folk, blues and pop and always in "old, weird America" (Greil Marcus) and invites us to engage in an inspiring dialogue within the framework of self-determined artistic creation. Having been "on the road" himself throughout his life, the study of this exceptional artist suggests extraordinary approaches. In the spirit of his "Never Ending Tour", which began in 1988, we therefore invite you to literally take to the road yourself and artistically explore aspects of his work and his life's journey. Students go on the journey themselves, because the artistic process is just as important as the work and the individual needs to enter into new worlds of experience. With Dylan On The Road 2 Nach der erfolgreichen ersten Edition von „With Dylan On The Road“ 2022 geht das vom Polyartisten Bob Dylan inspirierte Projekt in die nächste Runde. Route: Kopenhagen - Göteborg - Oslo  - Bergen  - Stockholm - Malmö Nogati Udayana & Joseph Lang: „Is It All Over Now, Baby Blue? - Ein Song zwischen Seoul und San Francisco“Wir, Nogati Udayana und Joseph Lang, studieren Szenografie und Schauspiel an der Universität Mozarteum. Nach mehreren gemeinsamen Arbeiten wollen wir nun mit unserem Projekt „Is It All Over Now, Baby Blue? Route: Umfahrung der Insel Johannes Brömmel & Jakob Schulte: „Something's happening, but you don't know what it is (Ballad of a thin man)“Ein Gefühl steter Ungewissheit, ein Portrait unserer Zeit. Route: London - Manchester - Newcastle - Birmingham - Leicester - Liverpool - Sheffield - London Lenni Hofer & Samuel Obernosterer: „Feed the document“Is it time to go Elektrik? Inmitten von carbon capture und batteriebetriebenen Containerschiffen, archivieren Lenni Hofer und Samuel Obernosterer die Sedimente des Klimadiskurses. News With Dylan on the Road - Bringing it all back home 6.10.2022 With Dylan on the Road - Bringing it all back home  Inspired by the polyartist Bob Dylan and his approaches of appropriation and transformation, nine artistic-explorative teams of two from the Mozarteum University were on the road in South Africa, the US, Mexico, Europe and Latin America during the first half of 2022. The results are nine art projects that will be premiered on October 14 and 15 as part of Jazz & The City, accompanied by a symposium "Inspired by ... commemorating 60 Years of Bob Dylan.". NEVERENDINGARTIST (Isabella Heigl, painting and Agustín Castilla-Ávila, music): "We want to facilitate the understanding of transdisciplinarity and propose our own classification based on our artistic practice: according to who practices which discipline with which objects." "... even the birds are chained to the sky." Disguised as a road movie, this free-form documentary by Magdalena Hofer and Samuel Obernosterer compares the utopian ideas inscribed in society with Dylan with an ever-approaching future. Based on Dylan's search for his homeland, encounters and exchange are the central driving force behind Elena Lengauer and Leonie Lindinger's journey. They immerse themselves in Bob Dylan's reception and points of contact in South America. Their impressions can be experienced visually as a video essay and pictorial-photographic-linguistic diary excerpts. Gerlinde Radler and Monika Eliette Jandl are travelling to Spain as the duo CORIMEJ with "Blowin' in the Wind" in a VW bus and an organically growing, experimental exhibition format. They collect messages from artists of all genres and bring a piece of zeitgeist back home. Lara Schnepf and Lukas Stangl hike through Normandy: "There are 357 kilometres, old railway tracks, coastal paths, the sea and two pairs of "Boots of Spanish Leather" between the start and end point. What happens in between and where do we end up?" Paulina Maike Strobel and Alina Hausmann use "The Times They Are A-Changin'" to ask themselves how they can take an artistic stance on current socio-political issues such as the climate crisis. They visit places where major climate policy conflict issues manifest themselves. Antigoni Baxe and Zuzanna Wężyk are also devoting themselves to Dylan's song "Boots of Spanish Leather": "In Spain, we want to find out how culture has influenced Dylan's music and bring his work to the classical guitar stage." "Never mind mummy (we're just bleeding)": Inspired by Dylan's all-absorbing gaze, Carla Schmutter and Henry Schlage want to poetically process their own experiences in an evening of theatre that invites the audience to find reflective sympathy with a world in which they themselves are at home. General information International Education Policy at the Mozarteum University In an era of an increasingly integrated European Union, where internationalisation and globalisation are more than idealistic visions and a common European educational area is becoming a reality, educational institutions are called upon to step up and invest further in cooperative projects at both national and international levels. Thanks to its geographical position along the North-South axis, a crossroads of cultures since the 8th century, Salzburg has always maintained close contact with European cities and cultural centres beyond national borders. The idea of a united Europe has a centuries old tradition in Salzburg. Salzburg’s most famous son, W.A. Mozart, undertook tours to cities such as London, Paris, Milan, Naples and Prague, thus enriching the musical life of his home town by introducing cosmopolitan flair. This international mindset continued into the following century with numerous music festivals, reaching a new level with the founding of the Salzburg Festival in the 20th century. Salzburg opened its gates not only to its European neighbours, but to the world, strengthening connections and furthering artistic exchange. Internationality is also woven into the fabric of the Mozarteum University. Students from a wide range of countries take the opportunity to train at an institution that has brought renowned artists from around the globe to its faculty. These teachers not only pass on their skills and artistry with dedication, but also play an active role in cultural life worldwide as artists, teachers and jurors. In doing so, they help build connections with other cultural institutions at both European and international levels, fostering cooperation within the Erasmus+ programme and beyond. Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) Erasmus+ Policy Statement Mobility is an inherent aspect of the arts and life as an artist, with its importance reflected in many areas of activity at the university. The Mozarteum University views international mobility as a natural element of academic life. Experiences abroad allow students, early-career researchers, faculty, and non-teaching staff to gain knowledge and develop their skills. The Mozarteum University Salzburg is therefore committed to actively encouraging students and staff to take part in mobility projects, with the aim of making study or work abroad a firmly established norm. Through the Erasmus+ Programme, our institution maintains partnerships across Europe that would not be possible at this scale without EU support. We believe all students, regardless of socio-economic background, should have access to high-quality educational opportunities. The new generation of the Erasmus+ Programme enables the Mozarteum University Salzburg to introduce new incentives for participation in Erasmus+ mobility (including for people from underrepresented backgrounds). The introduction of ‘Blended Mobility’ and short-term mobility options ensures that students who work alongside their studies are also given the chance to experience study and life abroad, and we hope this will lead to an increase in student participation in mobility programmes at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Internationalisation strategy and Erasmus+ The Mozarteum University Salzburg is already highly international in both its makeup and outlook. Over 70 countries and five continents are represented within our 2000-strong student body. Our teaching faculty is similarly cosmopolitan, with our 550 members of staff being drawn from 38 countries across three continents. In the performance agreement period 2019-2021, the Mozarteum University Salzburg rose to place 11 in the “QS World University Ranking“ (by subject), up from 52nd place in 2018. The university is constantly striving to improve its international standing, and has taken numerous measures to this end. Thus the International Summer Academy at the Mozarteum University Salzburg has, over its 100 year history, established a worldwide reputation for itself, as is testified by the high number of applications it receives each year from highly talented musicians year on year. The biennial International Mozart Competition, whose final is regularly streamed by Austrian national broadcaster ORF, is firmly established in the top league of international competitions. In recent years, the Mozarteum University Salzburg has significantly expanded its active participation in key international networks, thereby taking on a role in shaping the global educational landscape in the arts. The Development Plan for 2022–2027 also envisages the introduction of several degree programmes with an international dimension, aiming to further strengthen internationalisation in teaching and learning. System Objective 6 of the GUEP 2022–2027 and Chapter VI of the University Mozarteum Salzburg’s Development Plan for 2022–2027 provide a detailed outline of the vision and strategic directions for internationalisation. The Mozarteum University Salzburg has identified six targets that are closely linked to the Development Plan: Raising the international presence and profile of the university as a whole Continuing the development of degree formats Promoting awareness, discourse, and active participation in shaping international quality standards in research, the advancement and appreciation of the arts, and teaching Mobility as an extension of students’ and teachers’ range of experience Dialogue between cultures Internationalisation at home The ERASMUS+ Programme plays an important role in achieving these goals. The themes of mobility, as well as “dialogue between cultures” and “internationalisation at home,” are reinforced by the programme, since mobility – in the form of bilateral exchanges with partner institutions – also supports on-site internationalisation. The Mozarteum University Salzburg is committed to participating in Erasmus Key Action 1 (KA1) – Learning Mobility of Individuals. Existing forms of mobility should not only continue but be further strengthened (study periods abroad, Erasmus+ mobility for teaching and non-teaching staff). The process will also be increasingly digitised through the introduction of Online Learning Agreements and the European Student Card. The new Erasmus generation also enables the Mozarteum University Salzburg to broaden its range of collaborative projects with global partners and launch new initiatives. The Mozarteum University Salzburg aims to fulfil the goals of the new programme by taking the following steps: Promoting the use of eco-friendly methods in all activities related to the programme Creating incentives for people from disadvantaged communities to participate Implementing the programme’s digitalisation measures Encouraging participants to get involved in activities within the wider community before, during, and after their stay Aims and Purposes For the performance agreement period 2022-2024, the Mozarteum University Salzburg set itself the following goals: To increase the number of regular students enrolled at the Mozarteum participating in an international mobility programme (outgoing students) To increase the number of students enrolled at other universities welcomed at the Mozarteum through an international mobility programme (incoming students) Additionally, short mobility schemes for students wil be promoted, with the introduction of blended intensive programmes helping to increase the number of student mobilities at the university and enabling students to gain valuable learning experiences abroad. Regular evaluation of mobility activities (for both students and staff) will be carried out to ensure quality control. The partnerships maintained by the Mozarteum University will also continue to be reviewed regularly. One example of a mobility project currently in development is a project on artistic work with the theme “On the Move,” which offers a travel scholarship, network support, and the opportunity to give a presentation at the international Bob Dylan Symposium. In order to support and encourage mobility, the Department of International Affairs underwent a restructuring in 2021, which included the creation of new staff positions. The extension of the regional mapping project, planned for the performance agreement period 2022–2024, into international cooperations is intended to strengthen services, improve the orientation of mobility and enhance the quality of international partnerships. Another measure in the area of mobility for the 2022–2024 performance agreement period is the planned relaunch of the Mozarteum University Salzburg website. This will go hand in hand with a redesign of the “International Affairs” section, so that information about mobility and exchange programmes for students and staff is presented in a more intuitive way. An additional goal for this performance agreement period is to advance the internationalisation of teacher training and to increase mobility opportunities for instructors in teacher training programmes. The Development Plan 2022–2027 will also give details of structural measures that have been conceived to further project-related student mobility that is independent of ERASMUS. Further points for discussion include the development of mobility windows, the structural anchoring of cooperations, the special case of Brexit in the context of university mobility, and the quality management of international activities. With regard to the goal “Internationalisation at Home,” the goals for the performance agreement period, as detailed in the Development Plan 2022–2027, are as follows: Exploring the repertoire of a particular culture in detail Multilingualism in concert performances Cultivating contact with consulates and embassies, providing students for concert performances in order to realise joint cultural programmes Offering courses and access to research findings in the academic field Music and Migration International Networks The Mozarteum University Salzburg is a member of the following networks and organisations: AEC - Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen Erasmus+ - Bildungsprogramm der Europäischen Union Nationalagentur Erasmus+ Bildung Bologna-Prozess ELIA - The European League of Institutes of the Arts EUA - European University Association Forum Internationales der Österreichischen Universitätenkonferenz OeAD - Österreichische Agentur für internationale Mobilität und Kooperation in Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung ASEA-UNINET - ASEAN-European Academic University Network EURASIA PACIFIC UNINET Mitos21 E:UTSA European Platform for Artistic Research in Music (EPARM) European Textile Network (ETN) Salzburger Hochschulkonferenz (SHK) Cooperations and partnerships People Skip slider Nadine Story Nadine Story Department management Service department management Employee Caroline Maria Hasenschwandtner Caroline Maria Hasenschwandtner Employee Jump to slider start

Sample contracts (mica Austria) Template for royalty notes (freefinace) Fair pay - fair remuneration for artists and cultural professionals Advocacy organisations in the arts and culture sector have been drawing attention to the difficult situation in the arts and culture industry for years: poor pay, precarious employment and discontinuous working conditions are problems that many arts and culture professionals have to deal with. Periods of unemployment between engagements or projects also mean that an entitlement to unemployment benefit is never realised. An irregular and unpredictable income also results in a lack of social security in the event of illness and a lack of protection against poverty in old age. A large proportion of artists and cultural professionals live at or below the poverty line, as a study on the social situation of artists and cultural mediators in Austria shows (2018)1. The demands of the interest groups IG Kultur Österreich published a Fair Pay Manifesto in 2021, which was developed in cooperation with its more than 800 member initiatives, including the TKI (Tiroler Kulturinitiative). It describes the requirements for fair pay, contains concrete implementation steps and demands for policymakers. Also in 2021, the Austrian Cultural Council published a Fair Pay Reader together with all cultural interest groups in Austria. For the first time, this provides an overview of all fee and salary recommendations currently available in Austria for the arts and cultural sector. It also includes the salary scheme of IG Kultur Österreich and the TKI (Tiroler Kulturinitiative) salary scale, which has been in existence since 2009 - one of the first recommendations for fair pay in the cultural sector in Austria. Moving into politics The issue has now also reached those responsible for cultural policy: The implementation of a ‘Fair Pay’ strategy by the BMKÖS (Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport) with the federal states, the Association of Towns and Municipalities, and the interest groups of the cultural sector has begun in order to make payment in the Austrian arts and culture sector fairer. In 2022, the federal government launched a pilot phase on fair pay in the arts and culture sector and made around 6.5 million euros available for earmarked fair pay funds for the first time; in 2023, a total of 9 million euros will be made available for subsidies in the spirit of fair pay. Solidarity - the responsibility of each individual However, even if awareness of the problem is increasing in politics and cultural organisations, the salaries are still only guidelines and not legal requirements. The proposed fees are called ‘minimum fee recommendations’ and can serve as a basis for negotiation; however, it is up to each individual to implement them. It is therefore all the more important that artists and cultural professionals show solidarity and do not practise their art below a certain minimum fee - in the knowledge that they are not only negotiating a current amount for themselves, but also weakening their negotiating position for other colleagues and thus the market in the long term if they are underpaid. Minimum fee recommendations for the individual art and cultural sectors can be found on the following pages, among others Fee schedule 2023 for independent cultural work IG Kultur: The current FAIR PAY salary scheme for cultural associations (from 1 January 2023) IG freelance musicians: Fee recommendations music austria: Minimum fee recommendations for the music sector IG visual arts: Guidelines and fee schedule 2023 IG independent theatre work: Lower fee limit Basic ideas on fee structure If you look at the recommended minimum fees, you might initially think that a fee of 350 euros for a single performance lasting one to two hours is already a very high hourly rate. However, if you take a closer look, it quickly becomes clear that the amount of work required to be able to perform at all is many times higher than the pure duration of the performance. Rehearsal and development times, travelling costs, the purchase of appropriate materials, rehearsal rooms, technical equipment, etc. all have to be factored in. It should also not be forgotten that many artists and cultural professionals work on a freelance or hybrid basis; this means that they do not have a regular income, have to pay taxes and insurance on their own and also have to cover office hours for acquiring orders, bookkeeping and organisation. In conclusion, it should be said that the fair pay strategy is currently under development. Theory and practice do not always coincide, compromises have to be made in many areas and personal needs must not be disregarded. Society, politics and cultural organisations need time to rethink. But in order to achieve a minimum, a maximum must be demanded and with every discussion, every negotiation and every engagement with this topic, we move closer to the common goal: fair remuneration for artists and cultural professionals. 1 Source: ‘Social situation of artists and art and cultural mediators in Austria’ 2018 An update of the study ‘On the social situation of artists in Austria’ 2008 Petra Wetzel, with the collaboration of Lisa Danzer (L&R Social Research) Veronika Ratzenböck, Anja Lungstraß, Günther Landsteiner (Austrian Cultural Documentation) Ensembles  Classical (Opens in new tab) Organic Strings (Opens in new tab) Emilia Wutte (Violine), Veronika Seiler (Harfe), Miriam Tiefenbacher (Orgel) Das Trio Organic Strings präsentiert ein eindrucksvolles Programm u. a. mit Werken von Komponistinnen aus Klassik und Moderne. When she made her debut in an orchestra at the age of 13 with D. Zanettovich's Concerto for Flute and Strings, the foundation for her musical career was laid. Her desire to pursue her passion for filigree music-making led her to Paolo Taballione at the Mozarteum University, where she began her studies in 2017 and completed her bachelor's degree with honours in 2021. The young flautist is currently completing her master's degree in concert flute. For the academic year 2023/24, she was accepted into the renowned flute class of Sophie Cherrier with the support of Vincent Lucas at the Paris Conservatoire CNSMDP. Leona pursued her curiosity for different musical expressions in masterclasses and courses with recognised flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Philippe Bernold, Gudrun Hinze, Michael Martin Kofler, Walter Auer and Jasmine Choi. She has also received further artistic inspiration for her chamber music work from instrumentalists such as Michel Moragues, Stefan Schilli, Radovan Vlatkovic, Cibràn Sierra-Vasquez and Stephen Fitzpatrick. Her high regard for contemporary music is reflected in numerous world premieres and compositions written for her. In June 2023, she played the work ‘postcards’ by French composer Henry Fourès as part of a portrait concert in honour of the composer. The Austrian flautist, winner of the Bruno Gironcoli Prize, is characterised by a broad spectrum of tonal colours and a great willingness to experiment.
