The warlike events of the past week shake the very foundations of our confidence in a Europe of peace and coexistence among many nations and peoples. We unreservedly condemn Russia's aggressive invasion of Ukraine. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected and their families.
The rectorate has contacted the Ukrainian students at our university, and initial aid measures are already being implemented. The Austrian University Conference (uniko) also condemns Russia's attack on Ukraine in the strongest possible terms and assures threatened students, researchers and artists of rapid and unbureaucratic support.

Also committed is Jürg Kesselring, member of our university council and delegate of the committee of the International Red Cross, which is now organizing such vital humanitarian aid in Ukraine. ( Details )

As an art university, we are called upon to take a stand and make our mark. In this sense we will dedicate concerts, performances and much more in the next weeks to the people in Ukraine, but also to politically persecuted people in the neighboring country Belarus. In doing so, we also show solidarity with former artist Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Selenskyj, who has been serving as President of Ukraine since May 20, 2019. The former actor, director, dubbing artist, scriptwriter, television presenter and film producer had once pointed out the grotesque aspects of political realities in a special way also as a cabaret artist. As a newly elected president, he courageously confronted the oligarchs of his country with his anti-corruption policy, and fearlessly stood up to President Trump when he tried to use him for his own power interests.

What can we as an art university learn from such a personality? What can and what must we do now within the scope of our possibilities? We cordially invite everyone to contribute with suggestions and activities. ( simone.seymer@moz.ac.at )

Donations help! Proceeds from donation boxes at the entrance to events will go to needy Ukrainian students. Proceeds from paid events will also be dedicated to Ukraine.
