The soprano Melanie Maennl studied music pedagogy, musicology and psychology at the University of Munich and additionally opera singing at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg. Master classes with Gabriele Schnaut, Theo Adam, Hans Sotin and Inge Borkh completed her education.
Various opera engagements in the dramatic soprano repertoire have taken the singer to European opera houses such as B. the Teatro di San Carlo Naples, the Hamburg State Opera, the Bremen Theater or the State Theater Oldenburg. The operas by Richard Strauss (e.g. Rosenkavalier and Ariadne) and Richard Wagner (e.g. Tristan und Isolde) form a focal point of the repertoire.
In particular, Melanie Maennl interpreted the music of the Romantic and Modern eras very successfully on the concert stage, she worked with the conductors Gabriele Ferro, Eliahu Inbal, Friedemann Layer, Siegfried Köhler, Ari Rasilainen and orchestras such as the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic, the Bremen Philharmonic, the Bochumer Symphoniker, the orchestra of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich and the Munich Symphoniker. In addition, Melanie Maennl is in demand as a song interpreter with, among others, Gerold Huber on the piano.
The soprano has been working as a teacher at university level since 1998. In addition to teaching singing, she has also held lectureships in subject didactics and the basics of scenic work in singing lessons in Munich, Maastricht and Essen. In 2019 Melanie Maennl led an international master class for singing at the Festival Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinsberg and was vocal coach for the opera production Martha. In her private singing studio, the soprano looks after many young singers on their way to a singing career. For example, she has been involved in the Salzburg Festival and has won prizes in numerous international competitions. Another focus of the pedagogical work is working with children and young people. Melanie Maennl led soloist classes at the Choir Academy in Dortmund and at the Theater Hagen and today works as a singing teacher at the Tölzer Boys' Choir in Munich particularly important as a teacher. In 2021 she founded a musical academy at the music school in Geretsried in Upper Bavaria, where she is responsible not only for vocal training but also for drama lessons.
