Alexander Drčar

Alexander Drčar has been working as a university assistant for orchestral conducting and interpretation research as well as overall coordinator of the conducting class at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2014; he has been head of the Department of Conducting, Choral & Wind Orchestra Conducting since the 2018/2019 winter semester. In 2021, he habilitated in orchestral conducting and has been leading the conducting class together with Prof. Ion Marin as a private lecturer and senior lecturer for orchestral conducting ever since.

Alexander Drčar, born in Munich, studied orchestral conducting with Karl Österreicher at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, graduating with honours. He subsequently conducted at renowned opera houses such as the Hamburg State Opera, the Hanover State Opera, the Volksoper Vienna, the Landestheater Linz, the Ulm Theatre and the Klagenfurt City Theatre. In concert, Alexander Drčar has conducted the RSO Vienna, the Lower Saxony State Orchestra Hanover, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) in Taipei, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) in Taichung, the Slovenska Filharmonija in Ljubljana, the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and many others. Alexander Drčar also has an intensive involvement with new music, which has been reflected in regular concerts with the reihe / Vienna and the oenm / Salzburg.

Since 2022, Alexander Drčar has been artistic director of the newly founded Academy Orchestra of the Mozarteum University Salzburg. He regularly works as a conductor and guest lecturer at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance; in 2025 he will take over the musical direction of a cooperation project with the Krzysztof Penderecki Music Academy in Krakow (Penderecki - Mozart Youth Academy - Krakow - Salzburg).
