Press release

Under the motto “All About the University”, the Mozarteum University Salzburg is participating in the World Day of Innovation and Creativity (21st April) as part of a nationwide initiative organised by the Austrian University Conference (uniko), which highlights the central role of universities in society and for the future.

As part of this joint media campaign, rectors of Austrian universities are engaging in conversation with influential figures from the worlds of art, academia, and research. Representing the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the new rector, Constanze Wimmer, and actress Mavie Hörbiger will discuss the social significance of arts universities, artistic education and training, and creative practice.

Their meeting will be filmed and published in the Mozarteum University's media library (moz.ac.at) on 21st April.

Rector Constanze Wimmer is convinced of the vital role that arts universities play in the life of tomorrow's artists.  "Young people who choose a professional career in the arts need an environment brimming with creativity, inspiration, challenge, and a spirit of innovation. Arts universities are the best place for this, because they are spaces where artists, educators, and researchers work together with students every day to find ways to make art and culture accessible to everyone.”

Through this initiative, uniko, together with Austria’s universities, aims to send a strong message: Investing in universities is investing in innovation, creativity, and the country’s future.

World Creativity and Innovation Day was recognized by the United Nations in 2018. Its stated goals are to promote creativity and innovation for the benefit of society and to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through social progress.
