Our former university council member, Dr Thomas Daniel Schlee, passed away on 10 November 2025 at the age of 68.

The organist, composer, musicologist and music manager Dr Thomas Daniel Schlee was elected to the University Council by the Senate of the Mozarteum University in October 2007 for the term of office from 2008 to 2013. 

Dr Thomas Daniel Schlee, born in 1957, studied organ, harmony and counterpoint as well as musicology, art history and composition in Vienna and Paris with Michael Radulescu, Erich Romanovsky, Jean Langlais, Olivier Messiaen and Francis Burt. Active as a composer and organist, Dr Schlee has published numerous works and performed worldwide, participated in radio and CD productions and important international festivals, and received a number of awards and prizes. From 1990 to 1998, he was music director of the Brucknerhaus Linz and artistic director of the International Bruckner Festival, and from 1999 to 2003, he was deputy director of the International Beethoven Festival Bonn. From 1995, he held various positions at the Guardini Foundation in Berlin and from 2004 to 2015 he was artistic director of the Carinthian Summer Festival. Schlee composed works for orchestra, ensemble, vocal, choral, chamber and instrumental music, as well as numerous works for and with organ.
