The research project investigates the combination of textile and sound. The aesthetic potential of the textile-sound combination is explored and new possibilities of artistic expression are explored. Textile is an interactive medium and metaphor in its form of presentation and interpretation. Textile is material that uses certain techniques without naming the material or technology itself, similar to architecture. The term sound encompasses the artistic fields of sound art, music, ambient noise, transacoustic fields and silence. Sound is based on a conceptual compositional process in terms of the organisation of sounds, but also has a physical aspect in that the perception of sound is strongly linked to bodily processes such as breath, movement and heart rate.

Since 2019, as a collective, they have been investigating the connection between textiles and sound and exploring new possibilities of expression in them, inviting visitors to experience and experience them in exhibitions, performances and installations.  Promotion Prize for Science & Research (endowment 6,000 euros) to Gertrud Fischbacher & Marius Schebella The two researchers received the award, endowed with 6,000 euros, for their work on the joint project "Nexus of Textile and Sound", which was the first Salzburg project to be accepted by the FWF's Austrian Science Fund into the PEEK Top Research Program and with which they were able to prevail in a competitive selection process reviewed by an international jury. This is the first time that PEEK funding has gone to both the Mozarteum University and the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. Christopher Lindinger is an innovation researcher, computer scientist and cultural manager. He was co-founder of the Futurelab at Ars Electronica in Linz and co-director of the Ars Electronica Media Lab until he was appointed Vice Rector at JKU Linz in 2019. On October 1, 2023, he will take up a professorship for Art & Digitality at the Mozarteum University.

Paul Feigelfeld has been a university professor for digitality and cultural mediation at the Institute for Open Arts at the Mozarteum University since October. He researches transcultural approaches to the history of media and knowledge, critical perspectives on technologies and their interfaces with art and design.

Radio, Relationality, and Artistic Research: In October 2025, Karen Werner started her professorship at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Working with radio as a deeply relational medium she explores presence, communication, and co-creation and reflects on radio as an aesthetic and political space.

The Unheard Earth: Environmental Crisis and the Dialectic of Post-Truth: Paul D. Miller – DJ Spooky

The “Staging Realities” festival will mark the opening of the Mozarteum University’s new X-Reality-Lab at the Kurgarten (UMAK) from 24 to 26 September 2026. From October onwards, the lab will explore new narrative forms shaped by post-digital aesthetics.
