Gertrud Fischbacher and her cooperation partner Marius Schebella (FH Salzburg) were awarded with the project "Nexus of Textile and Sound" at the annual funding program of the FWF for the development and opening up of the arts (PEEK)! They won the Research Competition Mozarteum (RCM) at the end of 2019, the PEEK application, which is based on intensive local cooperation with the FH Salzburg, is a further development of the RCM project.

And the Winner Is ... the Mozarteum 2022 Research Competition has been decided! This year's award for particularly successful artistic-scientific research proposals goes to Heike Henning for her collaborative project proposal "Rethinking and Innovating Choral Musicking in the Digital Space", which is currently being prepared for submission to the Austrian Science Fund FWF in cooperation with the University of Liechtenstein and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.

The Boy Gobert Prize for young actors in the Hamburg theatre scene, worth €10,000, has been awarded to Payam Yazdani, a 2025 graduate of the Mozarteum University’s Thomas Bernhard Institute. We congratulate him on his success!

The Czech pianist Robert Bily, winner of The Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize 2022 and student of Pavel Gililov, wins the Alexis Gregory Vendome Piano Prize 2024, receiving the prize money of 30,000 dollars, and will also give several concerts in the United States and Europe.

SCANNING DIMENSIONS opens a space of projection and light as a dialogue and flowing transition between music and video, where one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's early pieces, KV15dd, becomes the content point of departure for the visualization and staging in space.

Violence against women (and minorities) is omnipresent, firmly anchored in our patriarchal structures, and is one of the most widespread human rights violations. In order to increase the visibility of the numerous initiatives of the United Nations and other organisations in relation to this topic, the UN campaign ‘Orange the World’ (OTW) introduced a uniform, strong subject colour. In keeping with its mission as an educational institution with social responsibility, the Mozarteum University is also taking part in ‘Orange the World’ during the ‘16 days against gender-based violence’ (25 November - 10 December).

Call for papers: For the upcoming conference, we invite scholars and researchers from the fields of art, political economy, architecture, urbanism, history, philosophy, etc. to submit proposals that address historical and contemporary forms of productivity and their social and aesthetic manifestations.

Oscar Jockel is currently Kirill Petrenko's conducting assistant with the Berlin Philharmonic and a conducting fellow of the Karajan Academy for two years. He has been appointed the first Composer in Residence of the Brucknerhaus Linz for the 2020/21 season. Previous commissions range from works for solo instruments to sound installations and orchestral works, the latter for the Bruckner Orchestra Linz or the Camerata Salzburg, for example.

Under the title "Staging Realities" Mozarteum University invites media artists and artist collectives to apply for a funded residency to create an interactive, multi-user XR performance in the newly built X-Reality-Lab. Fully operational in winter 2025, the Lab features cutting-edge projection-based XR technology and is supported by the open-source software framework mozXR developed in cooperation with the Ars Electronica Futurelab.

Establishing a similarity between the harmonic sequences in W. A. Mozart's Phantasia in C minor (KV 475) and the color chords of Salzburg is the starting point and program of the artistic-scientific cooperation project that brings together selected students of the University Mozarteum Salzburg and young people as well as adults of the class "Sound and Color" of the Landesmusikschule Bad Ischl.

In two open workshop phases, students from the Department of Scenography and teachers from the Mozarteum University met with employees of the Red Bull Media House to examine and explore sounds in a minor key by W. A. Mozart and the fascinating visual worlds of the Red Bull Media House film and image archive.

Accompanied by the sounds of Mozart's Violin Sonata in E minor, which lays over the smoldering conflicts like an ideal world, IDYLL tells of a family in upheaval…

Unbounded deals with the transformation process of the first movement of Mozart's Symphony in A major (KV 201) into a gradually emerging abstract painting, realized in the form of an animated film.

VR MozART takes the audience on a journey through space and time, using virtual reality glasses to immerse us in the emotional world of experience that W. A. Mozart's music opens up in all of us. In the English reading, the title VR MozART refers to the cultural adaptation that Mozart's work has experienced in European and also worldwide reception.
