In his lecture, Prof. Rothstein discusses conflicts between melody and harmony in a comparison of his analysis of a psalm setting from Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine and some analyses - in particular that of Verdi's ‘Anvil Chorus’ (coro di zingari from Il Trovatore) - from his book The Musical Language of Italian Opera 1830-1895 (Oxford University Press, 2023). The analytical content concerns, among other things, psalm tones, church modes and patterns based on the Romanesca movement model.

The symposium ‘Internalising’ serves the exchange of knowledge, findings, research results and methodological concepts around the topic of ‘Learning and practising in music’. Abstracts or short presentations of scientific lectures, workshops and poster presentations can be submitted. A publication in the form of a conference proceedings is planned.
