In his lecture, Prof. Rothstein discusses conflicts between melody and harmony in a comparison of his analysis of a psalm setting from Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine and some analyses - in particular that of Verdi's ‘Anvil Chorus’ (coro di zingari from Il Trovatore) - from his book The Musical Language of Italian Opera 1830-1895 (Oxford University Press, 2023). The analytical content concerns, among other things, psalm tones, church modes and patterns based on the Romanesca movement model.

As part of the festival ‘Verstörungen. Ein Fest für Thomas Bernhard’ (Disturbances. A Celebration for Thomas Bernhard) at Goldegg Castle. The 2025 ‘Verstörungen’ will begin with a staged production of Thomas Bernhard's “Jagdgesellschaft” (The Hunting Party) in collaboration with the Thomas Bernhard Institute at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In keeping with its commitment to emerging artists, the Mozarteum's ‘Theatermacherinnen’ (Theatre Makers) will be designing a programme item for the first time.
