Karin Skarek

Vice Rector for Resources

Born in 1971, manager Karin Skarek has been Vice-Rector for Resources at the Mozarteum since 1 April 2026 and is therefore responsible for the smooth running of the administration, financial matters, general university staff and resources at the Mozarteum.

After studying at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, specialising in business management and finance, the Vienna native completed an MBA at Lancaster University Management School in the UK. This was followed by international career positions at well-known corporations such as Procter & Gamble, American Express and Leica Microsystems in Vienna and London, where she held various international management and executive positions.

During a voluntary social year, the mother of one son and two stepsons spent 2015/2016 in Tanzania, where she supported an NGO in the fields of medicine, education and social work pro bono with her economic expertise. This experience marked her transition from the private sector to the NPO sector. From 2017 until taking up her position at the Mozarteum, Karin Skarek was the financial director of the Vienna Technical Museum with Austrian Media Library, where she was responsible for all operational matters and finances. In addition to the operational management of the museum, the winner of the Dr. Maria Schaumayer Foundation award is particularly committed to gender equality and the advancement of women. She also continuously promoted measures to make museum operations more sustainable and resource-efficient, for which the museum was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel as the first federal museum.

Karin Skarek is a passionate amateur musician and singer and has been an active member of the Bach Choir Salzburg since moving to Salzburg.
