Double bassist Takanari Koyama is Principal Double Bass of the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and a sought-after guest principal with major European orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has taught at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2017.
Double-bassist Takanari Koyama began his studies at the University of Arts Aichi with Hideki Hoshi. He went on to study with Josef Niederhammer and Werner Fleischmann at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and later with Alberto Bocini at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. He has also received musical impulses from Jerzy Dybał, Josef Gilgenreiner, Bogusław Furtok, Dorin Marc, Rinat Ibragimov, Sorin Orcinschi and Wolfgang Güttler.
Whilst in Vienna, he held a position in the Orchestra Academy of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and worked regularly as a substitute with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Since 2013, he has been principal double bass with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, which was awarded the Echo Classic Prize in Hamburg in 2017. He has also played as principal double bass with the O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra, Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Philharmonic Orchestra Giessen, Royal Northern Sinfonia and since 2022 he has been a regular guest principal double bass in Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
Takanari Koyama has taught at the Mozarteum University since 2017.
