Hungarian pianist András Moldoványi has received international recognition both as a soloist and as a dedicated chamber musician, and has appeared at leading concert venues and festivals throughout Europe and Japan. As a sought-after collaborator in the field of chamber music, he is a valuable member of the Mozarteum University’s Strings Department.
András Moldoványi began playing the piano at the age of six, but it was not until the age of 18 that he decided to pursue a professional career as a pianist. Even in his early youth, Moldoványi was intensely interested in mathematics, and during his studies in with András Kemenes (piano) and Rita Wagner (chamber music) at the Academy of Music in Budapest, he published his own discoveries on number theory in an academic journal. He continued his training at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, studying chamber music with Imre Rohmann and piano with Jacques Rouvier.
He complemented his university studies with masterclasses led by such renowned musicians as Boris Berman, Malcolm Bilson, David Fray, Giovanni Guzzo, Cyprien Katsaris, Claus-Christian Schuster, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Dénes Várjon and Dina Yoffe. He has also participated in international courses including the International Holland Music Sessions, Summer Academy Salzburg, Colluvio and IMS Prussia Cove.
He has won numerous national and international competitions. He performs at renowned festivals and in major concert halls in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and Japan.
Chamber music has always played a central role in his life. With his duo partner Andreas Siles-Mellinger, he won first prizes at the 26th International Chamber Music Competition ‘Giulio Rospigliosi’ and the 10th International Music Competition ‘Città di Palmanova’ in Italy. The duo was also awarded second prize at the renowned Swedish International Duo Competition, which is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
His piano trio (Li Ke, violin; Mátyás Hotzi, cello) performed at the International Holland Music Sessions in 2018, leading to their selection for the concert series New Masters on Tour 2019/2020. They gave concerts throughout Europe, including three at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
His concert recording at the House of Music Budapest was selected as the only solo piano recording for the CD documenting the best live recordings from the concert hall's two-and-a-half-year history.
