Ari Glage
Ari Glage has been a lecturer at the Orff Institute since 2006. A central focus of his work is the phenomenon of rhythm in its musical and artistic dimensions, particularly through full-body approaches such as body percussion and the use of the voice as a rhythmic and pedagogical tool.
Ari Glage studied Elementary Music and Movement Pedagogy at the Orff Institute of the Mozarteum University Salzburg from 1987 to 1993. During his studies, he engaged intensively with the drumming and percussion traditions of Brazil and West Africa, studying among others with Dudu Tucci. He also completed additional training with Reinhard Flatischler. Following his studies, he established himself as a freelance drum and rhythm teacher working with children and adults, while also performing as a percussionist in various ensembles, including “Kakilambe.”
Since 2003, together with Karin Mitterbauer, Glage has directed four consecutive training programmes in Integrative Drum and Rhythm Pedagogy in Salzburg. As leader of the Brazilian percussion group “Tudo Bem” and member of the samba ensemble “Arcoiris,” he continues to deepen his engagement with Brazilian music traditions. Between 2000 and 2004, he completed training as a TaKeTiNa Advanced Rhythm Teacher with Reinhard Flatischler.
Since 2006, Glage has taught at the Orff Institute in the fields of music improvisation, elementary music-making, teaching practice, transdisciplinary design projects and elementary music theatre for children, as well as in university continuing education programmes and the International Summer Course. A further focus of his work is the practice of Circle Singing in freely improvised vocal formats. From 2009 to 2022, he also taught rhythm training in the Pre-College programme at the Mozarteum University. His artistic and pedagogical work is continually enriched through extensive international workshops and teacher-training activities.
