Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant is a dynamic conductor and educator whose sophisticated energy and versatile musicianship have distinguished her on the international stage.
She serves as Chair of the Music Department and Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University, where she directs the Duke University Wind Symphony. She is also the Victor and Ruth Dzau Artistic Director and Conductor of the Durham Medical Orchestra. Moving fluently between the orchestral and wind ensemble worlds, she serves as Co-Artistic Director of the Mid EUROPE Festival and Executive Director of the World Youth and World Adult Wind Orchestra Projects. Since fall 2026, she has also served as Senior Lecturer in Blasorchesterleitung at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
Originally from Austria, Mösenbichler-Bryant began her musical studies at age six and earned conducting degrees with distinction from the Anton Bruckner Private University, Michigan State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Texas at Austin. Her acclaimed transcriptions of works by John Corigliano and Eric Whitacre are widely performed, and she is sought after internationally as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator.
Recent engagements include conducting the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, where audience members have described her conducting as “poetry in motion.” She is known for her advocacy of contemporary composers and frequently collaborates with distinguished soloists and ensembles, including Florian Hatzelmann, Jakob Grimm, Alex Sopp, Sandbox Percussion, and Joseph Alessi.
Committed to educating the next generation of musicians, she serves as conductor of the Schwäbisches Jugendblasorchester in Germany. She conducted Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience and frequently appears as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe.
