Stephan Höllwerth is a conductor, choral director and music scholar with extensive experience in orchestral and choral work, as well as in music education and broadcasting. He has been a Senior Artist at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2022.
After private lessons in violin, piano, music theory, and conducting, Stephan Höllwerth completed his conducting studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He subsequently earned a doctorate at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, graduating with distinction.
Stephan Höllwerth has performed with a number of orchestras, including the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Vienna), the Pro Arte Orchestra Vienna, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra, the West German Symphony Orchestra Böhlen, the Hallein Chamber Orchestra, and the Negaunee High School Orchestra. Since 2009, he has been responsible for various youth orchestras and ensembles at the Musikum Salzburg.
As a choral conductor, Höllwerth has worked with the Jeunessechor Wien and the Chorus Andrae Salzburg, as well as with ensembles including coro per sono, Cantus Amabilis, and Einklang. From 2005 to 2019, he was Musical Director of the choir of the Musikfreunde Laufen. Between 2019 and 2024, he served as Musical Director of the Kammerchor Salzburg.
Stephan Höllwerth is also in demand as an accompanist (Bachchor Salzburg, Capella nova Graz, Domkantorei St. Pölten), as a dramaturg (Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra), in recording supervision and programme production for ORF, and as a lecturer in music history with a focus on composer biographies (VHS Bad Reichenhall, VHS Salzburg, VHS Bern, VHS Graz, Bildungshaus St Virgil, among others).
Since December 2022, Stephan Höllwerth has been a Senior Artist at the Department of Conducting at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, where he is responsible for choral management and provides support in concert dramaturgy.
