Cafeteria Open to Everyone – Now Also Fully Accessible
The cafeteria at Mozarteum University Salzburg is not only a meeting place for students and staff, but is also open to the general public in Salzburg. Disabled parking spaces right next to the main building, access via Eurokey, electronic doors, and various accommodations in the wheelchair-accessible toilets are measures that further enhance this open access: the canteen is intended to be a place where everyone is welcome to eat together, exchange ideas and engage in conversation.

After taking a tour in his wheelchair, “tester” Christian Platzer confirmed that the cafeteria and restroom are accessible, thereby giving the green light for the City of Salzburg’s next “Accessibility Tip.” The City of Salzburg’s “Accessibility Tip” aims to showcase examples of how accessibility can be successfully implemented in everyday life, thereby promoting a city that is as inclusive and accessible as possible.
The project was launched in 2016 by the City of Salzburg’s Advisory Board for People with Disabilities. The project regularly showcases institutions, businesses or public places that make a special effort to ensure accessibility.
“Eating together, studying together, being part of something together — accessibility makes university life and enriching encounters possible for everyone.” (Claudia Haitzmann, Disability Coordinator, Mozarteum University)
“To me, accessibility means that everybody can participate in social life on an equal footing and independently. It’s not just about removing physical barriers, but about enabling interactions on equal terms. I’m pleased that the accessible canteen represents another important step in this direction.” (Cornel Crisan, Disability Liaison Officer, Mozarteum University)
