With the Paul Roczek Award in the amount of 10,000 euros, the Mozarteum University each year honours students majoring in violin who have demonstrated extraordinary talent and special achievements. Laura Katherina Handler was selected as the winner of the Paul Roczek Award 2022.

Laura Katherina Handler (born 1998) began violin and voice lessons at the age of six, and since 2018 she has been studying with Harald Herzl at the Mozarteum University. She has received numerous awards at national and international competitions and can already look back on an extensive concert career: Solo and chamber music performances have taken her to the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residence, the Berlin Philharmonie, Shenzhen Hall and the Musikverein in Vienna, among others. She has performed as a soloist with the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the Taurida International Symphony Orchestra St. Petersburg, among others.

Laura has also performed at festivals such as the LvivMozArt Festival in Ukraine, the Keshet Eilon Festival in Israel, the Schleswig Holstein Festival, the Allegro Vivo Chamber Music Festival, the Munich Music Festival Stars & Rising Stars and the 71st Festival of Young Artists Bayreuth. Master classes with Zakhar Bron, Tanja Becker-Bender, Christian Altenburger, Ingolf Turban, Vadim Gluzman, Benjamin Schmid, Vadim Repin, Mihaela Martin and Maxim Vengerov have enriched her education so far. She has been an academician with the Munich Philharmonic since October 2021. Laura is a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Organization Live Music Now, the Studienstiftung Cusanuswerk, the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the PE-Förderungen für Studierende der Musik e.V., the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and the Villa Musica Foundation Rheinland-Pfalz.

Since 2022 Laura plays the Pietro Guarneri violin "ex Schubert" (Mantua, 1702) provided to her by Villa Musica.
