After A Midsummer Night's Dream and Owen Wingrave, the Department of Opera & Music Theater at the Mozarteum University will once again devote itself to Benjamin Britten's abysmal music-theatrical oeuvre. This winter semester, two of his masterpieces will be performed: Albert Herring in December 2022 will be followed by The Turn of the Screw in January 2023.

On October 13 and 14, 2022, the largest exhibition to date of the interdisciplinary and interinstitutional project Spot On MozART took place at the Mozarteum University - an exciting journey through 17 projects, including film premieres, interactive spaces, and a piano-playing industrial robot. Nikita Buldyrski, actor and graduate of the Thomas Bernhard Institute, is honoured with the prestigious Alfred Kerr Actor Award. The prize is awarded annually for an outstanding performance by a young actor in one of the ten productions at the Berlin Theatre Meeting. It is endowed with 5,000 euros in prize money and is awarded by the Alfred Kerr Foundation with the support of the Berliner Festspiele.

Guest Lecturer on the course "Advanced Studies in Music and Dance Education – Orff-Schulwerk“ (Madrid / San Francisco)

Munich baritone Jakob Hoffmann is the winner of the 5th International Haydn Competition for Classical Song and Aria, endowed with 8,000 euros, which took place over the Whitsun weekend at Rohrau Castle (Bruck/Leitha district, Lower Austria). Hoffmann also picked up two special prizes.

The Tyrolean State Prize for Art, worth €14,000, goes to Johannes Maria Staud, a composer born in Innsbruck and professor of composition at the Mozarteum University. The jury unanimously agreed that Staud is one of Austria's most important contemporary composers. We send our warmest congratulations!
