Romed Hopfgartner is Senior Lecturer in saxophone at Mozarteum University Salzburg (Innsbruck campus). Alongside his teaching, he is an internationally active saxophonist, clarinettist and composer whose work spans jazz, chamber music, orchestral performance and theatre.
Hopfgartner studied saxophone with Florian Bramböck at the Tyrolean State Conservatory and with Wolfgang Puschnig at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He performs with numerous ensembles in Austria and abroad, most notably the internationally acclaimed Musicbanda Franui, for which he also composes. As a theatre musician and composer, he has worked with institutions including the Salzburg Festival, the Burgtheater and Volkstheater in Vienna, the Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen and the Tiroler Landestheater. In recognition of his artistic achievements, he received the City of Innsbruck Jazz Prize in 2016 and, with Franui, the German Record Critics' Annual Award in 2018 for the album Ständchen der Dinge.
