Benjamin Kammerer
The pianist Benjamin Kammerer has been Professor of Piano and Piano Didactics Mozarteum University (Innsbruck campus) since 2018. He has a particular interest in new and contemporary music, and regularly includes works by Jörg Widmann, Thomas Larcher, Eric Tanguy, Daniel Schnyder, Gérard Zinsstag, Alfred Schnittke, Olivier Messiaen and György Kurtág in his recital programmes, in addition to more familiar repertoire.
Benjamin Kammerer completed his piano studies in Germany and the United States with Sontraud Speidel, Felix Gottlieb, Emile Naoumoff and Menahem Pressler (Beaux Arts Trio). He also studied Lied accompaniment with Wolfram Rieger in Berlin. Further artistic inspiration came through masterclasses with distinguished pianists and teachers including Oxana Yablonskaya, Mikhail Voskressensky, Dmitri Alexeev, Stanislav Pochekin and Boris Petrushansky.
A prizewinner at several international piano and chamber music competitions, Kammerer is a passionate chamber musician whose collaborators include the violinist Frederieke Saeijs, the clarinettist Miguel Pérez Iñesta, the pianist Francesco Piemontesi, members of the Gémeaux Quartet and the Galatea Quartet, and the baritone Georg Gädker. He has appeared at festivals including Heidelberger Frühling, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Montebello Festival in Switzerland and the Festival Internacional de Música in Gijón, Spain, and has given recitals and chamber music performances in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Central Asia, China and the United States.
Kammerer began his university teaching career in 2007 as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University Bloomington. In 2009, he joined the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts, before teaching at the Bern Music School from 2012 to 2018. Since 2018, he has been Professor of Piano and Piano Didactics at Mozarteum University.
