Stephan Quandel studied instrumental composition at the HfMT Cologne with Krzysztof Meyer and Markus Hechtle and tone-setting pedagogy as well as aural education with Friedrich Jaecker and Johannes Schild. Since 2019, he has been working as Senior Lecturer for music theory, tone-setting and aural education at the Mozarteum University. In the context of his research activities, he is concerned with new approaches to music theory and the music of the late Romantic period (especially Gustav Mahler).
