Sweet Spot: Rock Concrète
Tue. 7.3.2023
When talking about the historical origins of electronic music, this often subsumes those of academic, electronic avant-garde music, especially the music of the WDR studio in Cologne, with its protagonists Karlheinz Stockhausen and Gottfried Michael König, as well as that of Musique Concrète around Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry.

The latter in particular, however, also inspired many musicians largely attributed to the rock genre to conduct comparable experiments in the second half of the 1960s. Often embedded in traditional song structures, these collages can be found as "islands" of expanded aesthetics in the work of artists such as Frank Zappa and Holger Czukay, as well as in pieces by the Beach Boys, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Grateful Dead. The SWEET SPOT series sees itself as a forum for classical and completely new productions of electroacoustic music in Salzburg. Pieces of the genre are heard and discussed with each other. Each concert is accompanied by a short introduction and the opportunity to discuss what has been heard.
